The deep state has been aligned against POTUS Donald Trump since before he was inaugurated, as evidenced by the carefully planned and orchestrated “Spygate” scandal that sought to depose him with fake accusations that he “colluded” with Russia to “steal the election” from Hillary Clinton.
While several people associated with that scandal have either quit government service or have been fired, three years into the president’s first term there are still deep state operatives working to undermine his agenda and, by default, the agenda 63 million Americans backed when they elected him.
In particular, one of POTUS Trump’s signature issues was his pledge to enforce all immigration laws, secure the U.S.-Mexico border against human and drug-smuggling, and build a “big, beautiful wall” to keep criminals, terrorists, and smuggled humans out of the country.
At every turn, his immigration enforcement initiatives have been thwarted: By Democrats, RINOs, federal judges, and Left-wing open borders organizations.
And now, he’s being undermined by his own appointees, if a Washington Examiner report on Saturday is accurate.
You may recall in recent days the president tweeted that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents would begin a multi-city operation to round up illegal aliens who have been ordered deported by immigration courts but have refused to leave.
The president’s tweet did not provide any details about the operation — such as when it would take place, or where, or how. (Related: The part of the U.S.-Mexico deal you haven’t heard about: Trump admin will send migrants BACK to where they came from “full throttle.”)
But those details were leaked to the Washington Post last week, as reported by The National Sentinel:
Now, some have questioned why the president would publicly announce such raids, and the answer is, perhaps our compassionate commander-in-chief wanted to give those in our country illegally a chance to leave on their own.
Fair enough. But beyond that very public warning, the details of ICE operations would necessarily remain covert so that agents could achieve maximum results for their efforts.
The Post, however, reported which cities ICE would target, when the raids were to begin, and additional operational details that so compromised agents’ safety, the president and ICE called them off late Saturday, citing the leak to the Washington Post.
Who could have done that? According to the Washington Examiner, that someone is acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan:
The sources said only a small number of people in the White House, ICE, and DHS were even aware of the plan’s details, including which cities, the date and time, and who would be targeted.
Two officials said the acting secretary, who was promoted internally in April, had fought for months during closed-door discussions with White House officials, the former acting ICE Director Ronald Vitiello, and the new acting ICE Director Mark Morgan against the plan, which they noted was similar to one the Obama administration carried out in 2015.
Putting two and two together, the Examiner noted further that McAleenan traveled to the border in recent days with, among others, the Washington Post reporter who broke the story.
“It really jeopardized the safety of law enforcement officers — that’s the part that’s really detrimental,” one official told the news outlet.
If this story holds up, we’ll know soon enough because it’s very like that McAleenan’s days with the Trump administration are going to be numbered. Beyond that, it’s grotesque to see an administration official entrusted by his oath to not only uphold the law but the policies of the president who appointed him to carry out his objectives.
Enforcing the law isn’t supposed to be this hard. It’s not to be subjected to a vote and it’s not a democratic process. But it must be done if we’re to have a viable, functioning, and vibrant republic.
Too many deep state trolls continue to thwart this president. Even if he gets another term, it’s likely he’ll never root out all of them.
