The Immigration and Customs Enforcement‘s recent report for the 2023 fiscal year has found that illegal immigrants arriving in the United States during the administration of President Joe Biden only have a 4.4 percent chance of being deported.
According to the report, between October 2022 to the end of September 2023, ICE reported over 3.2 million encounters with illegal immigrants at the country’s borders and only 142,580 of them were deported during the same period.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas even claimed that the country had a “record number of deportations” last year – a claim that Lora Ries, director of the Heritage Foundation’s Border Security and Immigration Center, strongly criticized.
“Alejandro Mayorkas can’t play it both ways. He’s already publicly admitted that they’ve released at least 70 percent of the [over 10 million] illegal aliens encountered by Customs and Border Protection in the past three years,” she said. “He can’t then portray himself as a secretary of immigration enforcement based on deportations, especially when you examine the numbers to scale. The American people stopped believing his lies long ago.”
Moreover, the report highlights the decline in “interior removals,” where ICE agents deported fewer than 4,000 illegal aliens monthly from the American interior during the last fiscal year. This figure is in stark contrast to the average of 7,000 deportations per month recorded during the first three years in office of former President Donald Trump.
Trump’s administration also had a deportation rate of between 23 to 28 percent of illegal immigrants encountered at the border.
In a recent interview with New York City Mayor Eric Adams on FOX5 NY, he revealed that cities are incapable of revoking decades-old sanctuary policies that shield illegal immigrants from deportation by ICE agents.
“We cannot, by law, tell someone if they come into the city, ‘You can’t come into the city.’ We can’t even turn them over to ICE; the law states that we cannot notify ICE. I cannot break the law and enforce the law,” he explained.
Adams, a Democratic politician, has been criticized for still accepting illegal immigrants and providing free hotel rooms, food, city-run shelters, free cellphones and other services, despite his claims that New York City is already facing a breaking point.
But even before the interview with Adams on FOX5 NY, critics already knew the real problem. The Biden administration releases around 5,000 border crossers and illegal immigrants into the U.S. every day, with protection from the sanctuary policy and free housing funded by local taxpayers. For instance, Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik, who represents northeastern New York state, claims that the only thing to blame for the migrant influx in New York City and other blue cities are the “radical” sanctuary policies imposed by Democrats, including Adams himself, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and President Joe Biden.
“Unfortunately, because of these extreme Democrats’ policies, every community is now a border community,” said Stefanik, the chairwoman of the House Republican Conference. She added that those communities are now “reaping the havoc these policies have caused.”
These policies gained another criticism from Hauman, to which he said: “A country that doesn’t properly deport illegal aliens is no country at all. Joe Biden is derelict in his duties as president.”
