Former President Donald Trump has warned the public that the United States under the administration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris has become a “dumping ground” for the prison populations of other nations.
In a Republican counterprogram to the Democratic National Convention (DNC) at Montezuma Pass in Cochise County, Arizona on Aug. 22, Trump inspected the fence with local law enforcement and border officials. Trump warned Americans that the growing crisis at the southern border has led to an influx of violent criminals that he said posed serious risks to American citizens.
“We’re here today on the southern border in Arizona, where Comrade Kamala Harris… She wants open borders. I don’t understand why anybody would want it, but she wants our country to be open to the world’s criminals, so they can come in and rape and pillage and do whatever they have to do,” said Trump. “She’s the most radical left person who has ever run for high political office in our country’s history.” (Related: Trump vows to implement the largest domestic deportation operation in American history if re-elected as president in 2024.)
“Our criminals all of a sudden don’t look so tough to us, right? These are the roughest people, and they’re the roughest people from all over the world,” Trump continued. “Their jails are being emptied from all over the world. The criminals are being taken from their cities, and by the way, their crime rates are way down. Their crime rates came way down. Venezuela, all of these countries, their crime rates are down. Their prison populations [are] down. Soon they won’t have any prison population, because 100 percent of it will be in our country.”
Trump then blamed Vice President Kamala Harris for her negligence in her duties as the so-called “border czar.”
“We had a border czar,” Trump said. “Who was the borders czar? She loved the title, but she didn’t want to do the work, or she’s lazy. And probably more importantly than being lazy, she wants to have an open border. And you say, ‘Who would want an open border where criminals can pour into our country?'”
That same day, Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) held a rally in Valdosta to address the same issue: border security and immigration.
Just like Trump, Vance blamed Harris and labeled her a “failed border czar.”
“As soon as Kamala Harris is booted out of office, we are not open for business to the illegal aliens or the Mexican drug cartels anymore. That is our solemn promise to the American people,” Vance told the crowd. “Our message to illegal aliens who come into this country by breaking our laws if you came into this country illegally, Donald Trump and I are going to work to send you home because that is what is required if you want to have a real border policy.”
Since Biden dropped from the 2024 presidential race, Republicans have blamed Harris for the ongoing and escalating illegal immigration crisis.
“Our message to illegal aliens who come into this country by breaking our laws if you came into this country illegally, Donald Trump and I are going to work to send you home because that is what is required if you want to have a real border policy,” Vance added.
