Democrats claim to have cornered the market on compassion but it’s hard to reconcile that with the party’s steadfast refusal to help POTUS Donald Trump and willing Republicans fix the nation’s asylum loophole and other immigration-related laws that Homeland Security officials say act as magnets to the U.S.
During two nights of debates this week, a crowded field of 2020 Democratic presidential hopefuls alternately lambasted the president and his border-and-immigration enforcement policies while stumping for what amounts to open borders — which, if it ever became official policy, would see a stampede of people from around the world into the United States.
That fact alone belies the Democrats’ claim that under Trump the country has become ‘authoritarian,’ ‘bigoted,’ and ‘racist’ — and that his administration is running “concentration camps” where tens of thousands of migrants are being held, mistreated, and abused.
If any of that was true, how many people would seriously risk their lives trying to get to America?
It’s patently false, of course, which is why so many migrants are spending thousands of dollars and taking awful risks to get here.
And speaking of risks, as more and more migrants attempt the perilous journey, more and more of them are either falling prey to smuggling cartels or are succumbing to the environment — including a father and his 23-month-old daughter who were recently found wash up along the bank of Rio Grande River after drowning.
The incident should not have happened, POTUS Trump told reporters who asked him about it as he departed for the G-20 Summit in Osaka, Japan, on Thursday, and it wouldn’t have, perhaps, if ‘compassionate’ Democrats in Congress would work with him and Republicans to fix legal loopholes that, again, serve as magnets to cross illegally. (Related: Including citizenship question on 2020 census “constitutional” and “legal,” but John Roberts votes against it anyway, handing open borders advocates a victory.)
“I hate it, and it could stop immediately if the Democrats change the laws,” said the president, as reported by The Epoch Times. “And that father who was probably a wonderful guy with his daughter, things like that wouldn’t happen.
If we had the right laws, that the Democrats are not letting us have, those people wouldn’t be coming up, they wouldn’t be trying,” Trump said of the incident. “The asylum policy of the Democrats is responsible.”
The news site noted further:
The bodies of Óscar Alberto Martínez Ramírez and his almost 2-year-old daughter Valeria were captured washed up on the bank of the Rio Grande in Matamoros, Mexico, on June 24. The two had drowned trying to cross the river to Brownsville, Texas.
Later, the president tweeted: “The Democrats should change the Loopholes and Asylum Laws so lives will be saved at our Southern Border. They said it was not a crisis at the Border, that it was all just ‘manufactured.’ Now they admit that I was right – But they must do something about it. Fix the Laws NOW!”
The president has made every imaginable effort to not only shore up border security and protect the country from illegal alien criminals and drug smuggling, but he’s proposed sensible policy changes (see video below) that would make our laws more enforceable, thus making it less attractive for people to try to break into the U.S.
But at every turn Democrats in Congress have shunned the president and Left-wing judges in federal courts have thrown up roadblocks.
That left POTUS Trump little choice but to threaten tariffs on Mexico to force that country to step up its own border security and internal immigration enforcement efforts, which appears to be working.
But the president shouldn’t have to rely solely on Mexico. All members of Congress should be on board with border security and reforming laws that lead so many people to risk their lives to get here.
It’s like Democrats want more carnage on the border so they can use it for political gain. Sick.
